Schedule 2020

8 April till 9 April

  • IPA (Integrated Performance Assurance)

    Leandro Melendez

In this presentation, Leandro shares his framework Integrated Performance Assurance (IPA), which include actionable suggestions and practices that you can implement in your projects that make your life easier. After the session, you will have discovered several performance practices that you can integrate into your solutions right away to help with your performance testing efforts.

  • IOT Performance Testing

    Scott Moore

In this session, Scott give an overall look at what an IoT application looks like from an architectural standpoint. He also touches on the must-know protocols like the OSI model, and how TCPIP, TCP, and UDP work. Using this knowledge will make it easier for you to make a strategy around performance testing the different layer of your IoT applications. Scott also shares some of the tools and best practices that are out there that can help you in terms of automation and generating load and demos a real-world example. After this session, you should have a clear understanding of how you can build your own IoT end-to-end testing strategy.

  • Building Performance Testing Pipelines for CI/CD

    Viktoriia Kuznetcova

Nowadays it is often the case that performance testing needs to be executed repeatable, fast, and with minimum manual work for a fast paced project to go from development to production. This raises challenges of creating realistic test environments, maintaining test data and analyzing performance test results automatically or semi-automatically. In this session Viktoriia shares her experience in building frameworks/pipelines to do just that in AWS-enabled environments, using open source tools and a bit of scripting. By the end of the session you should be able to understand how to approach building an automated Performance testing pipeline for your project, how to pick the right tools and how to get the best value out of it.

  • Machine Learning Application in Performance Analysis

    Gopal Brugalette

Managing the performance of complex systems requires more than simply running load tests. You need to perform a careful analysis of test results and production metrics. The sheer amount of data generated makes analysis a huge challenge that is often left wanting. With machine learning (ML) and the application of data science techniques, you have the opportunity to derive valuable and actionable information from big data. Gopal Brugalette shares the basic concepts behind ML, covering clustering, predictive analysis, and neural networks. He shows you how to implement algorithms using open source tools and languages like Python, R and AWS cloud services. With real-world examples, Gopal demonstrates the big data platforms Hadoop, Elasticsearch and AWS Sagemaker and illustrates performance engineering problems like performance monitoring, test result comparisons, error message analysis, and user insights. Join Gopal to learn about machine learning and how you can start solving your quality and performance engineering challenges.

  • How to Handle Performance Issues at Scale in the Cloud

    Wilson Mar

In this session, Wilson talks about performance testing in the cloud in production. His presentation focuses on strategies and specific tactics to enable Agile teams to work in Production environments. Dev teams working in production is a departure from the traditional approach where developers "tossed code over the wall" separating Developers and Operations people who ran Production. A different mindset and tools are needed to manage risks while striving toward the agility and profit potential from DevOps and Agile approaches.

  • Breaking Things on Purpose with Chaos Engineering

    Ana Medina

Chaos engineering is intentionally injecting failure into a system to proactively identify and fix hidden problems. As we continue building complex and distributed systems, are we making sure they are resilient? With Chaos Engineering you can learn how your systems behave under a variety of conditions. Ana will teach you how you can use Gremlin Free to get started on this today.

  • Absolute Performance: Triple Distilled for Your Engineering Enjoyment

    James Pulley

In this session, James will boil down for you what is performance engineering today, and some of the core attributes that we look at in terms of performance as a performance engineer

  • How to shift Left By Shifting Right

    Henrik Rexed

DevOps environments demand shorter development cycles and a lot of automation. Most of the organization are doing early performance engineering by testing the main components of the application in the dev pipeline. Performance testing is relevant from the moment you are simulating something realistic. Testing all your components is not a solution because it will complexify your deployment process. How do you make sure that you're testing the right components? How can you run tests that are always referring to the production activity? In this presentation, you will learn how to take advantage of the data available within your organization.

  • Efficient script creation and end user experience analysis with real browsers

    Keshav Vasudevan

Today, teams are more eager than ever to incorporate performance testing into their agile and DevOps workflows. However, while development and functional testing teams are keeping with the ideals of agility, performance testing is still seen as a slow, monolithic and centralized function. This is primarily because of how laborious it is to record and play back test scripts for load testing in protocol-based performance solutions, which capture all of the requests and responses between the server and client in the script. This process can be improved by using real browsers at scale. In this talk, I’ll detail the 80-20 framework to first identify the most important transactions that are required for testing, increase efficiency by moving from the protocol perspective to the browser’s perspective to capture end user transactions in the script, and translating metrics obtained from load testing with real browsers at scale to actionable insights for the engineering team quickly and easily.

  • Performance Testing From User Perspective

    Jacek Okrojek

When doing performance tests testers usually present statistics from tools that like JMeter or Gatling. This approach works for APIs and simple sites that do not require resources like javascript, CSS or image files. For most modern websites measurements collected that way give stakeholders information only about the performance of the lower layers of an application. Testers need to use other tools and approaches to obtain information about UI metrics, which are critical from the users perspective. In this session, Jacek shares his experience collected during several performance testing projects. Besides explaining the testing methodology, he will show how to use tools that help you gather common metrics and assess website performance on desktop and mobile devices. Participants will learn what they can achieve from a local lab, cloud infrastructure including SaaS platforms or when the application is live.

  • Making load testing with real browsers a reality

    Tim Koopmans

Tim shares the challenges his element.flood.io team faced with protocol level scripting and how browser level scripting helps address those, not to mention the new challenges it introduces.
